About the role
Lead the design and development of the technologies that drive aerodynamic performance in Formula 1.
At Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, we're looking for an experienced Senior Aero R&D Design Engineer to take ownership of complex design projects and develop innovative engineering solutions across our Aero Group.
Working across wind tunnel models, aerodynamic test equipment, wind tunnel facilities and full-scale dyno programmes, you'll lead projects from initial concept through to design, manufacture and testing. You'll work closely with engineers and stakeholders across the business, delivering high-quality solutions at pace in a demanding, performance-driven environment.
This is an opportunity for an established design engineer with strong technical capability, a proactive approach and the experience to manage competing priorities and deliver complex engineering projects to demanding timescales.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and take ownership of complex Aero R&D design projects, driving delivery from concept and feasibility through to manufacture, testing and implementation.
- Design and develop wind tunnel models, components, rigs, tooling, fixtures and aerodynamic test equipment for model-scale and full-scale applications.
- Act as the technical focal point for projects, coordinating with engineering, manufacturing and other departments to ensure alignment and successful delivery.
- Produce, review and approve 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation, ensuring designs meet engineering standards and are robust, practical and fit for purpose.
- Apply mechanical engineering principles, stress analysis and design-for-manufacture principles to develop effective solutions, resolving technical challenges throughout development and testing.
- Drive continuous improvement in design processes and methodologies, while providing technical guidance and supporting the development of engineering capability within the group.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
We're looking for an experienced and technically capable design engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, high-performance engineering environment. You'll ideally bring:
- Proven experience in a senior mechanical design engineering role, ideally within Formula 1.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Advanced parametric 3D CAD modelling skills, preferably using CATIA V6 / 3DEXPERIENCE, with experience producing engineering drawings to BS8888 standards.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including stress analysis, material properties, hand calculations and design for manufacture.
- Excellent knowledge of manufacturing processes and experience validating designs through physical testing.
- Experience developing or working with kinematic suspension models.
- Strong project ownership and organisational skills, with the ability to make sound engineering decisions, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality solutions against demanding deadlines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the confidence to work across multiple engineering disciplines and influence project delivery.
Make an Impact Your engineering solutions will help accelerate aerodynamic development, strengthen our testing capabilities and contribute directly to the performance of our Formula 1 car. Join us and help drive our ambition to compete at the front of the grid!
