About the role
Red Bull Technology have an exciting opportunity for an undergraduate to join our High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Technical Platforms team based in Milton Keynes. You will be a valued member of the team, working alongside experienced engineers who design, operate and improve the compute, storage and platform technologies that underpin simulation, analytics and engineering workloads. This placement offers a unique opportunity to learn how large-scale, high-performance infrastructure helps a Formula One team turn complex engineering data into performance.
You’ll need to be curious, analytical and enthusiastic about solving technical problems. The role is hands-on and will give you exposure to Linux systems, compute clusters, high-performance storage, networking, automation and monitoring. You will work on operational activities and defined projects, both independently and with colleagues across IT and engineering. Clear communication, attention to detail and a willingness to learn are essential. Candidates should be studying Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or another relevant technical degree; prior HPC experience is not required.
The main accountabilities of the role are:
- Assist with the day-to-day operation and monitoring of HPC compute, storage and supporting platform services
- Support Linux-based systems, including routine administration, patching, troubleshooting and health checks
- Help investigate user issues with engineering workloads, job scheduling, performance and access to HPC services
- Develop scripts and simple automation using technologies such as Python, Bash, Git or Ansible
- Contribute to monitoring, reporting and analysis of system utilisation, availability and performance
- Participate in testing, benchmarking and technical proof-of-concept activities
- Assist with the installation, configuration and fault diagnosis of servers, storage and networking equipment in the datacentre
- Maintain clear technical documentation, operational procedures, asset records and knowledge articles
- Work with HPC engineers, platform engineers, software developers and engineering users to deliver reliable, secure and supportable services
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, automation and the user experience
- Take an active role in team projects, planned changes and continuous improvement activities
