About the role
We're looking for a Graduate Design Engineer to join our Aerodynamic Surfacing team, developing high-quality surface models that support the design, analysis and performance development of our Formula 1 car.
Working alongside experienced designers and aerodynamicists, you'll translate aerodynamic concepts into accurate, robust digital surfaces for CFD analysis and wind tunnel testing. This is an opportunity to develop your surfacing expertise in a highly technical, fast-paced environment, where attention to detail, collaboration and continuous improvement are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine high-quality surface models to support aerodynamic development, CFD analysis and wind tunnel testing.
- Translate design concepts and aerodynamic requirements into accurate, robust and manufacturable geometry.
- Work closely with aerodynamicists, designers and engineering colleagues to understand requirements and deliver surface models to demanding deadlines.
- Support the development and maintenance of CAD models, design data and aerodynamic baselines.
- Ensure surface quality, component accuracy and design integrity throughout the development process.
- Contribute to improving modelling methods, design processes and working practices to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Manage assigned tasks and deliverables, communicating progress and highlighting potential issues at an early stage.
- Develop an understanding of aerodynamic development, wind tunnel testing and the relationship between surface geometry and car performance.
- Work collaboratively across the Aerodynamics group and wider engineering functions to support the team's development objectives.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Product Design or a related engineering discipline.
- A strong interest in surface modelling, CAD and complex geometry, ideally with experience using CATIA or a comparable CAD system.
- An understanding of engineering design principles, geometric accuracy and design for manufacture.
- An appreciation of aerodynamic design, CFD or wind tunnel testing would be advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to technical problem-solving.
- The ability to learn quickly, respond positively to feedback and develop new technical skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A proactive, organised approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
- A willingness to challenge existing approaches, learn from mistakes and contribute to continuous improvement.
You'll be joining a team where technical curiosity, precision and a willingness to learn are valued. If you're keen to develop your surfacing skills and contribute to the aerodynamic performance of a Formula 1 car, we'd like to hear from you.
Benefits
Investing in your career is paramount. We promote professional and personal development through a provision of learning opportunities and work with you to shape your career and realise your full potential.
As part of our high-performing, collaborative team, you'll enjoy a competitive package, including a discretionary bonus scheme, private healthcare, pension plan, life assurance, TEDSgroup childcare benefits, a cycle-to-work scheme, tech scheme, and car scheme.
You will also have access to our state-of-the-art facilities at the AMR Technology Campus, featuring a new on-site gym with fitness, spin and yoga classes, a bistro café, and restaurant.
