About the role
⚽️ We’re on a mission to change the football transfer market
TransferRoom is a hyper-growth B2B SaaS SportsTech company and the only digital marketplace in the world focusing on the global football industry.
We do this by empowering football clubs, agents and players to be successful in the transfer market by giving them real-time market intelligence and direct access to a global network of decision-makers.
TransferRoom has become a must-have for key stakeholders in football’s transfer market. It’s used by 800+ clubs, including Man City , Liverpool and PSG , 550 agencies and 8000 professional players . It has empowered clubs and agents to facilitate over 6000 transfers since its launch in 2017.
💻 How We Work
We work in cross-functional squads , made up of full-stack engineers, product managers, designers, analysts, and automated QAs. Together, these squads own a key area of our platform — from club tools and agent products to core infrastructure and data services.
We believe the best work happens when teams are empowered to make decisions, collaborate openly, and ship fast. Our squads are lean and can develop and deploy their products end-to-end autonomously. Our engineers pair program, do code reviews, and iterate quickly to keep learning and improving.
We practice Scrumban and deploy new features to our customers every two weeks or sooner.
🏟️ Locations & Flexible Working
Our main office is at Bankside, London with additional tech teams in Poland and Ukraine.
Our office is naturally social, especially Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays, when we have regular team drinks, celebrations and five-a-side football.
🎯 What You'll Be Working On
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you'll play a critical part in designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure and CI/CD platform on Microsoft Azure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance for our applications. This is a 6-month contract with the potential to extend. Other things you can expect to do include:
- Design, build and operate secure, reliable and scalable Azure infrastructure across all TransferRoom products, using infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Terragrunt).
- Own and evolve CI/CD: build and deployment pipelines in Azure DevOps (YAML), shared pipeline templates, and containerised deployments.
- Troubleshoot production incidents end-to-end — from alert to root cause — across application, database and infrastructure layers, and write it up.
- Drive database reliability and performance work on Azure SQL: performance analysis, capacity and cost right-sizing, telemetry-based investigation.
- Improve observability (Application Insights, Azure Monitor, Grafana) and keep alerting meaningful.
- Contribute to platform-wide initiatives: environment standardisation, networking and private connectivity, certificate and DNS management, cloud cost optimisation.
- Raise the engineering bar: automation over manual change, documentation, and SRE process improvements.
We hire for potential and mindset, not just a checklist of skills — so you don’t need to have used all these before. If you’re excited about solving problems at scale, we’ll support you with onboarding and learning opportunities to get up to speed.
✅ You Should Apply If
- 4+ years in DevOps/SRE/platform roles
- Strong Microsoft Azure knowledge across compute, networking, SQL and identity
- Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform (Terragrunt a plus)
- CI/CD pipeline design and maintenance — Azure DevOps preferred
- Docker and container-based deployment
- Microsoft SQL Server / Azure SQL administration and performance troubleshooting
- Scripting: PowerShell, Python or Bash
- Fluent English; comfortable in a fast-moving scale-up
- Structured incident troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
Not ticking every box? That’s okay! Research shows that underrepresented groups often self-select out of applying unless they meet every single requirement. If this role excites you, we’d love to hear from you — even if you’re still growing into some of these skills.
